I’d highly recommend this little collection of ficlets by Kevin Brennan. It consists of five short-shorts, perfectly contained and varied in tone and character, revolving around the concepts of children and parenting. The voice is engaging and the writing clean and gripping.
The brief nature of the stories and of the collection itself meant you got the merest glimpse into these other lives, but that’s all that’s needed to be teased with the idea that there is something to be learned from each one. You come away with a tangle of feelings that are not black and white and they make you wonder what you think.
A thought-provoking moment of getaway that I highly recommend. And at 77p ($0.99) for the e-book it is well worth it.
