Greetings fellow fiction, scifi and book fans!
First off, WOW. Thanks SO much to everyone who has already grabbed a copy of Haven, book 2 in the Orbit Series that was released on Sat, and already fed back some wonderful things or even already finished and left reviews.
The most gratifying thing of all is knowing that fans of book 1 are finding Haven an overall decent, consistent follow-on to the story started in Zero and have enjoyed getting to know the characters and the setting in more depth. Some have even gone so far as to say that Haven leaves Zero behind and takes the series to the next level. This pleases me immensely as it makes me hope that I’m getting to know my characters and my settings better as well as the stories continue to unfold.
And don’t forget, anyone in the North West of England, I will be at the Gregson Centre, Lancaster on Sat 7th Nov for Out Of This World Fiction Fest: a gathering of local authors & artists selling and signing copies of special edition books and prints, comics and more! Come here to grab your copy of Haven from me and if you’re one of the first 10 to buy, you get a FREE HAVEN CUPCAKE, made by the wonderful Cumbria-based Yummy Cupcake Company.
There will be lots and lots to see so please do come down and take advantage of this chance to grab yourself a truly unique treat and/or start some geeky early Christmas shopping. As well as Scifi, there will also be horror, steampunk and fantasy authors and artists and First Age Comics will have a stall too!
And now in MORE news, read on for my next publication announcement.
The team of writers and editors that put together the popular SpecFic anthology No Way Home that was released earlier in the year (which featured my short story ‘Grist’ and got to number 1 in the Science Fiction anthology chart on the Amazon Kindle store) have come together again to release a follow-up collection. Crime and Punishment features a lot of the same writers, including the award winning Lucas Bale and Michael Patrick Hicks plus some new voices to mix up the tone. My short story New Tricks, which I teased not so long ago, made the cut and will be in alongside these great SciFi writers.
As you can guess from the title, though Speculative Fiction over all, the theme of this collection is law and order, or the lack of, in other worlds and alternative futures dreamed up by this formidable collaboration of authors. My own story follows the tale of a newly retired forensic counsellor who is tasked with one more job before he’s allowed to settle in to a promised life of peace with his new wife. The task is getting inside the mind of a multi-murdering step son of an aristocrat who claims to have supernatural powers and plans for world war. The establishment need to know exactly what he did and how otherwise the boy walks free and with him whatever means he has to drain groups of people of blood without touching them.
I’m very excited about this collection. I have a feeling it will take what we started in No Way Home to the next level.
This will be out for general release toward the end of November, so do keep those peepers peeled!
